NC State picked up its second transfer portal commitment of the day Wednesday night when Chazz Wallace announced he is joining the Wolfpack. The former Colorado defensive lineman has one season of eligibility remaining.

He arrived on campus earlier this week and committed to join the program while still on campus. Wallace joins former Akron safety Kerry Martin Jr. as the second visitor this week to announce his commitment.

The rising senior defensive lineman announced his decision on social media.

Wallace spent one season at Colorado after transferring from Old Dominion. He recorded 11 total tackles and 1.5 sacks in 2023 while playing 253 snaps. The 6-2, 295-pound lineman logged a 56.4 PFF grade while playing both defensive tackle and nose tackle. He started the final 4 games of the season for the Buffaloes and entered the transfer portal April 16.

During Wallace’s 2 years at Old Dominion, he recorded 47 total tackles and 2.5 sacks. He was a rotational lineman both of those seasons with limited starting experience but posted an above average 69.4 PFF grade in 2022 over 358 snaps.

On3 considers him the No. 133 defensive lineman in the portal with an 86 rating. Wallace also held offers from Marshall and Old Dominion. Per TheWolfpacker.com’s scholarship count, NC State now has 2 open scholarships for the 2024 season.

Nose tackle was a top priority for the Wolfpack in the transfer portal following C.J. Clark’s departure in the winter window. Junior Brandon Cleveland is the likely starter after thriving in a backup role last season, but Wallace adds competition to that group after carving out a role in Colorado’s rotation last season.

Coming out of high school in the 2020 class, the lineman signed with Old Dominion as a three star recruit. He attended The Avalon School in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
