NC State women's basketball falls in latest AP Poll
NC State women’s basketball fell in the Associated Press Poll this week after recording its third loss of the 2023-2024 season. The Wolfpack fell from No. 3 to No. 6, continuing its residency in the top-10.
Carrying a 21-3, 9-3 ACC record into the final stretch of the regular season, the Wolfpack remains in the race for the league’s regular season title and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. NC State’s three-spot drop in the poll came after the program finished one of the busiest weeks of its season 2-1.
After picking up a win over UNC, ranked No. 24 at the time, the Pack launched into a stretch of 3 games in 7 days. The program hosted and defeated Louisville thanks to an electric first half on offense but then lost at home for the first time in nearly a year to Virginia Tech.
Following the home stand, NC State bounced back with a blowout win over Pittsburgh. The Wolfpack remains the only top-10 ACC team in the poll.
A total of five teams from the conference made the top 25. Virginia Tech checks in at No. 12, followed by a logjam of ACC teams— No. 16 Notre Dame, No. 18 Louisville and No. 19 Syracuse. Duke and North Carolina also received votes.
NC State plays its second-consecutive road game this week, traveling to Indiana for a showdown against the Fighting Irish.
The Wolfpack ended up 5 points shy of No. 5 Texas in this week’s poll. South Carolina continues to hold down the top spot in the rankings with all 35 first-place votes.
