The Wolfpacker Show: NC State wins the ACC, NCAA Tournament preview

PITTSBURGH — The calendar is officially March, which means the NCAA Tournament has arrived. Both NC State’s men’s and women’s teams are dancing this week — which marks the second straight season the two squads made the tournament.

The men are in Pittsburgh, while the women will host a trio of teams inside Reynolds Coliseum starting Saturday.

The Wolfpacker Show, hosted by Ethan McDowell and Noah Fleischman, taped another episode to recap the men’s ACC championship win and to preview both of the teams’ NCAA tournament first round matchups.

In this episode, the hosts discussed:

– The Wolfpack’s shocking run through the ACC Tournament in Washington, D.C., including the Pack’s wins over Duke and North Carolina.

– How NC State was able to knock off top-seeded North Carolina in the ACC title game. The Wolfpack did not fall behind by double-digits against the Tar Heels, which Noah thought was the difference between NC State’s two losses to North Carolina in the regular season.

– Noah spent most of the first part of the podcast breaking down how NC State was able to storm through the conference tournament for the first time since 1987. It marked the Wolfpack’s first ACC Tournament title since 1987, which occurred in a historic feat of winning five games in as many days in the nation’s capital.

– In addition to talking about NC State’s tournament sprint through Washington, D.C., Noah broke down how Wolfpack coach Kevin Keatts utilized graduate forward DJ Burns in the ACC tournament. NC State did not play Burns more than 30 minutes in any of the ACC tournament games, which allowed him to be uber-effective en route to winning the event’s Most Outstanding Player award.

– After breaking down the men’s ACC Tournament championship, Ethan and Noah previewed NC State’s NCAA first-round game against Texas Tech. The Wolfpack and Red Raiders will face off Thursday night at 9:40 p.m. at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. The game will be broadcast on CBS.

– While the men are in action this week, the women are too. NC State is hosting the first two rounds of the women’s tournament as the Wolfpack will face Chattanooga in the opening game. Ethan broke down the Mocs and what to expect in the game.

– Ethan also touched on Tennessee, which is the Pack’s expected opponent in the second round on Monday in Raleigh.
