2026 four-star guard Jacob Lanier commits to Nebraska basketball

While Nebraska’s 2025-26 season is off and running, Fred Hoiberg and his staff added another key piece to its future on Sunday.
2026 Little Rock (Arkansas) Parview Magnet guard Jacob Lanier announced his commitment to the Huskers. The four-star prospect chose NU over TCU, Ole Miss, East Carolina, and Texas State.
The 6-foot-6, 192-pound Lanier is the No. 104 overall player in the 2026 Rivals Industry Rankings. He’s also the No. 28 shooting guard and the second-rated prospect in Arkansas.
Nebraska, led by assistant coach Pat Monaghan, hosted Lanier on an official visit in September. His father, Jason Lanier, told HuskerOnline that his family had plenty to like about their time in Lincoln.
“Coach Pat was really excited to get my son and excited about him potentially being a part of their program,” Jason Lanier told HuskerOnline. “Especially with the Michigan game happening and the electric atmosphere, they wanted to get him up that weekend. We really appreciated the attention. Like I said, it was a great, great – absolutely great visit.”
“Coach Hoiberg did a great job,” his father added. “Those facilities are second-to-none that I’ve seen, and I’ve been in the game of college basketball for a while and consider myself as having some sort of an eye. But I really loved what I saw at Nebraska.”
Lanier joins four-star Waukee (Iowa) Northwest wing Colin Rice as the second member of Nebraska’s 2026 recruiting class. The Huskers also recently landed their first 2027 commit in St. Paul (Minnesota) Cretin-Derham Hall wing Ty Schlagel.
Lanier vaulted up NU’s 2026 board during a breakout summer
Lanier steadily climbed up the Huskers’ 2026 board during a standout summer on the AAU circuit. Hoiberg was courtside for a handful of his games at the UA Finals in Chicago.
In fact, NU had at least one coach at Lanier’s final 10 games of the summer. He averaged 20.7 points on roughly 50% shooting from beyond the arc at the event.

Hoiberg also traveled to Little Rock to see Lanier three weeks ago at the beginning of the 2025-26 recruiting period. That full-court press continued when Lanier and his family made their way to Lincoln.
“That was it, you know, just making sure that we knew how much of a priority my son was and how much Coach Hoiberg really wanted to coach him,” Jason Lanier said. “Like I said, I think they like him a lot.”
Hoiberg sees Lanier filling a Brice Williams role
A staple of Nebraska official visits is Hoiberg putting together film cut-ups of previous players who fit a recruit’s profile and thrived in his system.
For Lanier, his film session featured plenty of Brice Williams.
With his bigger frame, 40-percent shooting from 3-point range, and ball-handling ability, Hoiberg thinks Lanier could fill a role similar to NU’s former first-team All-Big Ten selection.
“With him being a guard with great length and size, Coach Hoiberg has said multiple times that big guards have had a lot of success with him, especially guards that process a lot of information and make plays,” Jason Lanier said.
“That’s how they see my son, as a big guard – not necessarily a point guard but not necessarily a two. More of a combo guard. They see him as a ball-handling guard who can make decisions.”
