Nebraska Adds Portal Help Next At Alabama After Nick Saban Cornhuskers Hit Road After No. 1 Win

Nebraska finished 11th in total defense but is looking for some help at the second level after losing both starters. Defensive coordinator Tony White joined Matt Rhule‘s staff from Syracuse. Stefon Thompson started 12 games for White at Syracuse as a true freshman. The portal transfer linebacker announced he will rejoin White in Lincoln following his official visit.

The Huskers are looking for some help at linebacker. Nebraska needs to replace Luke Reimer, who played his final season at Nebraska in 2023 as a graduate, and Nick Henrich, after a third-team all-conference season, has retired from football after another injury.

Thompson should give Nebraska some relief. As a true freshman, Thompson started all 12 games for Tony White at Syracuse. During that season, he had 79 tackles, 6.0 sacks, 8.0 tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles.

In 2022, Thompson suffered a season-ending injury in the first game of the year, causing him to miss the remainder of the season. He took a redshirt year after playing as a true freshman.

Last season, Thompson saw action in all 12 games and started one contest. He finished the year with 52 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble on the season. He entered the transfer portal at the end of the 2023 season.

Thompson chose to go to Nebraska over Kansas State and Arizona State offers.
