Nebraska adds San Diego State's Roy Manning to defensive staff
HuskerOnline confirmed with a program source on Thursday that Nebraska has hired San Diego State’s Roy Manning to its defensive coaching staff.
Manning, who coached defensive edges this season at SDSU, will work with the Huskers’ d-line. His exact role is currently undetermined.

The 44-year-old native of Saginaw, Michigan, also coached at USC (associated head coach/LB, 2022-23), Oklahoma (CB, 2019-2021), UCLA (OLB/special teams, 2018), Washington State (OLB, 2015-17), Michigan (CB/OLB, 2013-14), and Cinncinati (RB, 2012).
Manning was also a linebacker at Michigan from 2000-04 and then played three seasons in the NFL.
He worked under new Nebraska defensive coordinator Rob Aurich this season at San Diego State. They helped the Aztecs rank in the top five nationally for scoring defense (12.6 points per game). Manning’s edge rushers accounted for 28 of SDSU’s 32 sacks this season.
