Just hours after wrapping up a visit to Lincoln, Connor Essegian became the latest transfer addition for Nebraska basketball.

The sophomore guard announced his commitment to the Huskers. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Essegian visited NU on Thursday after taking other trips to South Carolina, Maryland, and Indiana.

Essegian was a Big Ten All-Freshman Team selection two seasons ago. The 6-foot-4 native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, averaged 11.7 points and 3.7 rebounds over 27.4 minutes per game during his Badgers debut.

An injury led to a significant drop-off this year as a sophomore. The former three-star recruit posted just 3.2 ppg in 7.3 mpg and hardly cracked UW’s rotation late in the year.

However, Nebraska head coach Fred Hoiberg and his staff had a front-row seat to see Essegian’s potential. Essegian had arguably his best outing of the season in Wisconsin’s 88-72 rout of NU in January.

He hit 4-of-7 3-pointers to score 12 points in 12 minutes off the bench, leading the way for the Badgers’ 13 made threes on the day.

That’s partly why many still view Essegian as one of the top available shooters in the portal. His 69 made 3-pointers in 2022-23 broke the Wisconsin freshman record, and his 2,526 career points at Central Noble High School ranked 10th in Indiana state history.

The Huskers now have three scholarships remaining for next season after landing Rutgers transfer Gavin GriffithsUtah graduate transfer point guard Rollie Worster, and North Dakota State transfer big man Andrew Morgan.
