Nebraska freshman Nick Janowski enters the NCAA Transfer Portal

Nebraska saw its second roster departure of the offseason, with freshman guard Nick Janowski entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.
The 6-foot-4, 208-pound native of Pewaukee, Wis., redshirt the 2024-25 season after signing as a former top-150 recruit in the fall of 2023.
Janowski chose NU over a long list of other offers, including Wisconsin, Marquette, Iowa State, Iowa, USC, Georgia Tech, and Virginia Tech. He racked up a school-record 2,297 career points while leading Pewaukee to three state titles (and one runner-up finish) in four years.
Janowski joins sophomore Gavin Griffiths among Nebraska’s transfer losses so far this offseason. The spring portal window closes on April 21.

Hoiberg had high hopes for Janowski on, off the ball
Since arriving in Lincoln last summer, Janowski began grooming himself to play more on the ball. Head coach Fred Hoiberg said Janowski spent most of his redshirt year serving as the top point guard on NU’s scout team.

Janowski ran some point in high school, too. Along with his 30.8 points and 8.2 rebounds as a senior, he also dished out 4.4 assists per game. He ended his career with 357 assists, roughly 90 per year.
Hoiberg thought Janowski’s natural scoring and recent lead guard experience would have made him an ideal fit next season. Now, Janowski will search for another opportunity elsewhere.
“Nick is a kid who flat-out puts the ball in the basket,” Hoiberg said. “He can play multiple positions. He can play the point. That’s where he played most of this year on the scout team…
“The thing I love about Nick is he’s one of the most competitive players I’ve ever coached.”
