Nebraska picks up a late commitment from Ball State PG Jarron "Boogie" Coleman
Nebraska already had an open scholarship for the 2023-24 season. Then junior point guard Ahron Ulis was charged in a criminal sports gambling investigation, leaving his season – and future NCAA eligibility – in doubt.
Needing to bolster their backcourt depth quickly, the Huskers landed one of the most recent and intriguing transfer portal options on Sunday.
Sixth-year senior point guard Jarron “Boogie” Coleman, a second-team All-MAC selection last season, announced his commitment to NU head coach Fred Hoiberg.
The 6-foot-5, 210-pound native of Indianapolis entered the portal as an immediately eligible graduate transfer on Tuesday, Aug. 1, after getting his degree in July. The connection with NU was through assistant coach Adam Howard.
Coleman has 86 career starts under his belt, including starting all 30 games for Ball State in 2022-23. He led the Cardinals with a career-high 14.3 points and 3.8 assists per game, adding 4.9 rebounds.
He only shot 38 percent from the field but was 35% from 3-point range while averaging over six attempts a contest.

Coleman’s journey continues with the Huskers
Sunday’s announcement marks Coleman’s third transfer over the past three years. The former 2018 Indianapolis (Indiana) Cathedral standout played his first three seasons at Ball State.
After redshirting his first year, Coleman was named the 2019-20 MAC Freshman of the Year. He followed that up by averaging just under 14.0 ppg on 47% shooting (42% on 3-pointers) as a redshirt sophomore in 2020-21.
Coleman then transferred to Missouri in 2021-22, where he started 21 games and led the Tigers in assists. He entered the portal again the following offseason and returned to Muncie, Indiana.
With Coleman’s commitment, Nebraska has now filled its roster for this season.
