Nebraska OF Cayden Brumbaugh enters transfer portal; Cael Frost, Robby Bolin also depart

Nebraska outfielder Cayden Brumbaugh has entered the NCAA transfer portal, HuskerOnline has confirmed, marking a significant departure for head coach Will Bolt’s Cornhuskers baseball program.
Brumbaugh, a redshirt junior from Edmond, Oklahoma, played a pivotal role in Nebraska’s 2025 season. He appeared in 61 games and posted a .309 batting average with 18 doubles, one triple, 33 RBIs, and 51 runs scored. He’s a career .309 hitter with a .389 on-base percentage.

Before joining Nebraska, Brumbaugh spent a season at Oklahoma State, where he hit .318 in limited action. He transferred to Nebraska in 2022 but redshirted his first year due to a shoulder injury. His father, Cliff Brumbaugh, played in Major League Baseball for the Texas Rangers and Colorado Rockies.
In addition to Brumbaugh, outfielder Cael Frost was another notable portal entry this week. Frost, a senior from Gilbertville, Iowa, transferred to Nebraska from South Dakota State, where he earned Summit League Player of the Year honors in 2024.
During his standout season with the Jackrabbits, he hit .343 with a school-record 21 home runs and 59 RBIs. At Nebraska, Frost was expected to provide significant power to the lineup, but hit just .222 with seven home runs and 25 RBIs in 42 games. He struck out 41 times in 108 at-bats. With his previous time at Kirkwood Community College, Frost appears to be eligible for another season, despite 2025 being listed as his senior year.
The departures of Brumbaugh and Frost follow Nebraska’s conclusion of the 2025 season with a 33–29 record and a Big Ten tournament championship. The team participated in the Chapel Hill Regional of the NCAA Tournament, finishing with a 1–2 record.
The NCAA baseball transfer portal window opened on June 3 and will close on July 2, allowing players to explore new opportunities for the upcoming season.
