Nebraska rises two spots in Coaches' Poll and one spot in AP Top 25 after third straight win to begin season

Nebraska remains in the national rankings.

In fact, the Huskers jumped two spots — from No. 24 to No. 22 — in the US LBM Coaches Poll released Sunday.

The Huskers jumped one spot to No. 22 in the Associated Press Top 25, also released Sunday.

Nebraska’s rise in the two major national polls comes in the wake of Saturday night’s 34-3 home triumph against Northern Iowa. The Huskers are 3-0 to begin a season for the first time since 2016.

Illinois, which comes to Lincoln this week for a Friday night game, is unranked in the Coaches Poll despite its 3-0 record. The Illini, however, lead the way in “others receiving votes” with 75.

Illinois did draw a ranking in the AP Top 25 — the Illini are 24th — following its 30-9 win Saturday against Central Michigan. Illinois also has a win against Kansas (23-17).

Nebraska again takes control early

As had been the case in its first two games this season, Nebraska took control in the game’s early stages Saturday night. The Huskers reeled off scoring drives of 75, 75 and 80 yards to lead 21-3 midway through the second quarter.

UNI (2-1) was never a serious threat to win thereafter.

Nebraska true freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola once again handled himself well, completing 17 of 23 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns, with one interception — his first of the season against five touchdown passes.

Nebraska finished with 423 yards of total offense on just 48 plays, an average of 8.8 yards per play.

UNI finished with 301 yards of total offense on 71 plays, an average of 4.2 yards per play. The Panthers had the ball for 38:07 compared to 21:53 for the Huskers.
