Nebraska to host Pitt transfer big man John Hugley on official visit

It’s no secret that Nebraska is searching for an immediate impact big man following the departure of senior Derrick Walker.
That’s why the Huskers are hosting former Pittsburgh transfer center John Hugley on an official visit, per On3’s Joe Tipton.
The 6-foot-9, 265-pound junior will be on campus from April 17-19.
Hugley played in just eight games (six starts) this season after suffering a knee injury in October. On Jan. 14, he decided to sit out for the remainder of the year to focus on his mental health. He averaged 8.0 points and 3.6 rebounds over those eight appearances.
However, the Cleveland native led the Panthers in scoring (14.8 ppg) and rebounding (7.9 rpg) as a sophomore in 2021-22. His 2.7 offensive boards per contest that season ranked second in the ACC.

Hugley officially entered the transfer portal on Mar. 14.
The former four-star recruit was the No. 89 overall player in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. Nebraska’s previous coaching staff offered Hugley back in 2018.
Since entering the NCAA Transfer Portal last month, he’s received interest from Michigan, Oregon, Iowa State, Miami, Wisconsin, Rutgers, Maryland, Xavier, Arkansas, LSU, Georgia, Butler, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, Arizona State, and many others.
The Huskers currently have four available scholarships for the 2023-24 season. Along with seniors Walker, Sam Griesel, and Emmanuel Bandoumel, NU lost redshirt freshmen Denim Dawson and Oleg Kojenets to the portal.
Nebraska’s lone 2023 signee is IMG (Florida) Academy wing Eli Rice.
