Top-ranked Nebraska volleyball (19-0, 9-0) continued its unreal tear against Northwestern (13-8, 3-6), sweeping the Wildcats (25-17, 25-13, 25-17). The Huskers have now won 31 straight sets.

Nebraska looked dominant from start to finish, leaving no room for Northwestern to challenge. The Huskers’ offense, which came into Friday leading the nation in hitting percentage, had another efficient match. Nebraska’s attack posted a .357 hitting percentage in the game to continue its hot streak.

Harper Murray led the team with nine kills and hit .286. Teraya Sigler and Rebekah Allick added seven kills, while hitting .417.

The Huskers’ defense also continued to stifle their opponents. Although Northwestern found some early cracks in the defense, Dani Busboom Kelly’s team silenced the Purple and White.

The Wildcats posted a season-low hitting percentage of .099 in the match. Northwestern’s lowest hitting percentage in a match entering Friday was .157.

Set 1: Huskers overcome slow start

Nebraska came out of the gate a bit rusty, but the Scarlet and Cream overcame the slow start to win the set 25-17.

Northwestern went toe-to-toe with the Huskers in the first set, as it took an early 9-8 lead. During that span, the Wildcats hit .333, while Nebraska’s nation-leading offense hit a measly .167.

However, the Huskers answered Northwestern’s punch with a haymaker. Nebraska went on a 5-0 run to force the Wildcats to take their first timeout. The timeout didn’t do much to stop the Huskers as they grew their lead to 18-10 before Northwestern called their final timeout of the set.

In the latter half of the set, Nebraska’s defense tightened up. The Huskers had six blocks in the set, with Allick recording three. The Big Red defense forced the Wildcats to hit .040 in the set.

The offense also found its groove as it finished the set hitting .375.

Set 2: Nebraska keeps foot on gas

Northwestern tried to hang around in the second set, but just like the first, the Huskers shut the door. Nebraska beat the Wildcats by a convincing 25-13 score and finished the set on a 9-1 run.

The Huskers’ defense played another stifling set as they forced Northwestern to post a sub-.100 clip. The Wildcats had eight hitting errors in the set. Andi Jackson added four blocks to her team’s total in the set. She finished with a team-high five blocks and six kills.

Nebraska’s offense also continued to find its rhythm. The Huskers hit .364 in the set and only had one hitting error. Outside hitter Taylor Landfair, who had one kill in the match, went down with an injury in the set and did not return in the match. Sigler played all six rotations with Landfair sidelined.

Set 3: Huskers continue to roll

Nebraska handled business in the final set, taking down Northwestern 25-17.

The Wildcats’ offense found some new life in the third, as their hitting percentage got above .300 at times in the set. However, as the set waned on, Northwestern couldn’t match the Huskers, as their defense tightened up. The Wildcats capped off the match with a rough .053 hitting percentage in the final set.

Freshmen Manaia Ogbechie and Campbell Flynn both made appearances in the third. Ogbechie had four kills and hit .375. Flynn recorded four assists.

Nebraska’s offense had another fine set but posted its worst hitting percentage in the match. The Huskers hit .333 in the set and still looked great with a few backups in the lineup.

Nebraska is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. CT against Michigan State on the Big Ten Network. The Huskers swept the Spartans on Friday, Oct. 17.
