Nebraska volleyball handles Minnesota for 15th straight sweep

Top-ranked Nebraska volleyball (24-0, 14-0) continued its historic tear on Saturday, taking down No. 22 Minnesota (17-8, 7-7) in straight sets (25-15, 25-21, 25-20).
The Huskers carried their momentum from their sweep of Illinois on Thursday. In that match, the Scarlet and Cream posted their best hitting percentage of the season, finishing with a .488 clip. Nebraska followed that showing by hitting .434 on Saturday.
After posting a 1.000 hitting percentage, with nine kills on nine swings, against the Fighting Illini, Andi Jackson led the Huskers’ attack again vs. Minnesota. The middle blocker had 15 kills while hitting .619.
Rebekah Allick also put together an impressive match. The senior middle blocker had 10 kills and a team-high .714 hitting percentage.
Although Nebraska came away with the sweep, Minnesota put together a solid offensive showing against one of the nation’s top defenses. The Golden Gophers hit .268, highlighted by a .333 first set.
This win marks Nebraska’s 15th straight sweep, as the team has still not lost a set since its five-set thriller against Creighton on Sept. 16.
Set 1: Huskers’ offense starts strong
Nebraska’s offense got off to a blazing start in set one. The Huskers hit an absurd .588 en route to a dominant 25-15 win.
Nebraska jumped out to a blistering 4-0 start, forcing Minnesota to call its first timeout of the set. The Huskers continued to roll out of the timeout. It didn’t take long for the Golden Gophers to burn their last timeout, as they called another after Nebraska went up 11-5.
The Huskers’ offense looked downright unstoppable. Minnesota had no answer for their attack.
Taylor Landfair led the way with six kills in set one. The former All-American with the Golden Gophers posted an efficient .750 hitting percentage.
Jackson continued her perfect run, posting five kills on five swings. Virginia Adriano added five kills in the set, hitting .714.
Set 2: Nebraska keeps on rolling
The Huskers kept their foot on the gas in set two, but Minnesota didn’t step down. The Golden Gophers made it competitive, but the Scarlet and Cream still came out on top, 25-21.

Nebraska got off to another fast start in the second set. Dani Busboom Kelly’s squad took an early 11-3 lead behind a dominant 7-0 run. The Huskers’ offense continued its impressive offensive output, hitting over .500 in the first half of the set.
The Golden Gophers showed signs of life in the middle of set two. Minnesota put together a 7-1 run by taking advantage of some lax passing from the Huskers.
However, Nebraska’s offense was still too much for the Golden Gophers. The Huskers hit .444 as Jackson had seven kills on 10 swings in the second.
Set 3: Huskers finish strong
After handling Minnesota in the first two sets, Nebraska faced more adversity from the Maroon and Gold, but still came away with the final set 25-20.
The Golden Gophers’ defense finally began to slow down the Huskers in the final set. After two efficient sets, Nebraska posted a .278 hitting percentage in the final set.
After a calculated offensive attack in the first two sets, the Huskers cooled off in the third. Nebraska had five hitting errors in the final set, more than the first two combined.
The Huskers will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 14, when they kick off their West Coast road trip with UCLA at 8:00 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
