No. 1 Nebraska volleyball sweeps California

Top-ranked Nebraska volleyball (6-0) took down California (2-2) to continue its undefeated start. The Huskers swept the Golden Bears in convincing fashion (25-15, 25-18, 25-12).
Harper Murray recorded a game-high 14 kills while hitting .370. Andi Jackson added 12 kills of her own along with four blocks. Peyton DeJardin led Cal with seven kills, hitting .250.
Dani Busboom Kelly’s team controlled the net all afternoon. Nebraska recorded a .419 clip while forcing Cal to hit a rough .088. The Golden Bears recorded 18 hitting errors in the match.
Cal came into this game after losing to Wright State in five sets on Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Nebraska swept the Raiders on Friday (25-16, 25-16, 25-20).
Set 1: Dominant start
The Huskers opened up the match with a convincing 25-15 first-set victory.
Nebraska jumped out to a 13-6 lead behind electric serving. The Huskers had four aces in that span and made it difficult for Cal to pass well. The Golden Bears played some scrappy defense, but Nebraska’s serving didn’t give them much of a chance to facilitate their offense.
Nebraska recorded a .258 hitting percentage and forced Cal to hit a .062 clip in the set. Murray led the team with four kills while Rebekah Allick added three of her own and hit perfect.
Allick was another bright spot for the Huskers. The senior middle blocker finished with six kills, hitting .667 and added four blocks. Alongside Jackson, the Lincoln, Neb. native displayed her athleticism and showed why she is half of one of the best middle duos in the country.
Set 2: Murray goes off
After a solid first set, Murray erupted in the second en route to a 25-18 set win. The Ann Arbor, Mich. native recorded seven kills and was the main force behind the Huskers’ .556 hitting percentage in the set.
Murray had a kill on each of her first six attempts and showcased the high-flying athleticism that makes her one of the marquee players in the sport.

Nebraska’s stalwart defense also shone in the set as it blocked five of the Golden Bears’ attempts. The Huskers finished with nine total blocks in the match.
Busboom Kelly worked in a couple of different lineups as Allie Sczech and Campbell Flynn subbed in during the latter half of the set.
Sczech was efficient with her swings as the Baylor transfer finished with three kills on four attempts. Flynn played over one set at setter and had 18 assists.
Set 3: Huskers finish business
Nebraska made quick work of Cal in the final set, winning 25-12.
The Huskers jumped out to a quick 12-3 lead before the Golden Bears called a timeout. Just like Murray did in the second set, Jackson took over offensively in the third. The junior middle blocker recorded five kills on six attempts in the first half of the set and had seven total in the frame. Jackson only had five in the first two sets.
Although Nebraska brought in a mostly backup unit, the Scarlet and Cream still continued to roll, forcing Cal into submission. The Huskers hit .457 in the set, while the Golden Bears posted a .034 percentage, their worst of the match.
Cal had no answers for what Nebraska was cooking, as Jen Malcom’s squad didn’t score more than two consecutive points in the set.
Nebraska will be back in action Friday, Sept. 12 against No. 21 Utah at 6 p.m. C.T. on FS1.
