No. 1 Nebraska volleyball sweeps Lipscomb to open Nashville trip

No. 1 Nebraska volleyball (3-0) took on Lipscomb (0-1) in the Huskers’ first road game of the season. Dani Busboom Kelly’s team made quick work of the Bisons with a clean sweep (25-11, 25-21, 25-15).

Although Lipscomb will contend in the Atlantic Sun Conference this year, Nebraska utterly dominated. The Huskers recorded a .315 hitting percentage and held the Bison to a .043 clip.

Outside hitters Harper Murray and Taylor Landfair both led the Huskers with seven kills, as the Minnesota transfer finished with an absurd .778 hitting percentage.

Busboom Kelly used the game as a way to test out different lineups. The Huskers coach deployed different personnel at the beginning of every set as 14 different players made an appearance.

Set one: Huskers set the tone

To no one’s surprise, Nebraska flexed its muscles in the first set, winning 25-11. The Huskers dominated at the net, hitting .444 and forcing the Bisons to hit .042.

Lipscomb hung with Nebraska for the first couple of points, but the Huskers quickly showed why they are the No. 1 team in the country.

Landfair subbed in for Teraya Sigler early in the set and went on a rampage. After entering the game, the senior outside hitter had four kills in seven rallies. Landfair finished the set with five kills and a .714 hitting percentage.

Landfair’s flurry of kills helped spark a 12-3 run that gave the Huskers a commanding lead.

Murray and Rebekah Allick both had four kills with .429 and .500 hitting percentages in the set respectively.

Set two: Bison make it competitive

The Huskers may have won the second set 25-21, but the Bisons gave Nebraska more trouble.

In the set, the Huskers hit at a worse rate. Nebraska recorded a .250 clip and had six hitting errors. Lipscomb did not hit at a much better rate than it did in the first. The Bison hit at a .103 clip in the set, but were more consistent with their serving.

Busboom Kelly made the first of her personnel changes in this set. Campbell Flynn subbed in for Bergen Reilly at setter and freshman middle blocker Manaia Ogbechie made her season debut, subbing in for Allick.

Ogbechie recorded five kills and a .556 hitting percentage in the match. Flynn finished out the game at setter and finished with 22 assists and two kills.

Set three: Nebraska handles business

After the second set left much to be desired, the Huskers managed the Bisons much better in the final set.

Although Nebraska’s hitting didn’t return to its first-set efficiency, the Huskers’ defense excelled. Lipscomb recorded a .000 hitting percentage in the set, it’s worst of the match.

Nebraska will be back in action Sunday, Aug 31 at 11 a.m. CT against No. 7 Kentucky in the Broadway Block Party.
