No. 1 Nebraska volleyball (12-0, 2-0) continued its undefeated season with a win over Maryland (7-5, 0-2) in three sets (25-14, 27-25, 25-14).

Rebekah Allick led the charge for the Huskers and tied her career-high in kills with 13. The senior middle blocker also achieved a career best .706 hitting percentage. As a whole, Nebraska hit .360 with its middles having another elite showing. Andi Jackson joined Allick with nine kills on .800 hitting.

Maryland had its share of success against the Huskers. It’s nine service aces were the most any team has scored on Nebraska this season. Still, Nebraska’s defense locked down the Terrapins, holding them to a .090 hitting percentage. Despite being one of the top blocking teams in the country, Maryland finished with just four compared to the Huskers’ 11.

Set 1: Nebraska fights off slow start

Nebraska fought off some early rust, winning the first set handily 25-14. The Huskers hit .312 and held Maryland to a -.067 hitting percentage.

Nebraska looked out of sync at the start, with the Terrapins’ first seven points coming on errors. The Huskers struggled receiving serves while also keeping swings in play.

After starting the set with a -.143 hitting percentage, Nebraska battled back with its attack. A back-row kill from Harper Murray gave the Huskers a 6-5 lead, which they never surrendered.

The Terrapins were no match for Murray, Jackson and Taylor Landfair, with the trio each recording two kills. Murray kept rolling with another kill and an ace that forced Maryland to call a timeout down 17-11.

It didn’t take long for the Terrapins to use their other timeout after Nebraska took a 20-12 lead. Maryland made it difficult for the Huskers at times, but an attack error gave the Huskers the opening set.

Set 2: Huskers experiment with 6-2 rotation in tight set

Nebraska won a thrilling second set 27-25, hitting .324 to the Terrapins’ .244. The Huskers broke out the 6-2 offense for the first time on the season, rotating Bergen Reilly and Campbell Flynn in the back row at setter.

Maryland jumped out to an early 4-1 lead with a pair of blocks after only having one in the first set. The start didn’t faze Nebraska, as it tied the score 5-5 with Flynn and opposite Allie Sczech getting their first action of the match.

With the starters back in and the 6-2 in place, the Huskers took a 13-10 lead thanks in part to three Allick kills. The three-point advantage brought Flynn and Sczech back to the floor, and they picked up where Reilly and Virginia Adriano left off.

While only hitting .150 in the set at the media timeout, the Huskers shot that percentage up to .227 after kills from Allick and Teraya Sigler gave them a 17-12 lead.

Maryland didn’t go down without a fight as a 10-3 run tied the set up at 22-all. The sides traded points before Allick’s seventh kill of the set gave Nebraska set point. Murray capped it off with a kill that gave the Huskers the 27-25 win.

Set 3: Nebraska leaves no room for doubt

Nebraska closed out the sweep by taking the third set in dominant fashion, 25-14. The Huskers hit .452 in the final set to the Terrapins’ .034.

After getting out of the gates slowly in each of the first two sets, Nebraska wasted no time in the third. Two kills by Adriano headlined a 5-0 run to start the set and forced Maryland to burn a timeout.

Nebraska moved back to the 5-1 rotation in set three with Laney Choboy resuming her duties at defensive specialist. After Jackson picked up four early kills, Allick took over at middle and added three more of her own to give the Huskers a 13-6 lead.

Murray joined Allick in double-digit kills, with three in a row to make it 18-9. Nebraska closed the match on a 3-0 run with a Landfair kill ending it.

The Huskers travel to State College to take on No. 15 Penn State on Friday, Oct. 3. The 2025 national semifinal rematch will air on FOX.
