No. 7 Tennessee (45-15, 15-9 SEC) takes down Nebraska softball 1-0 to advance to the Women’s College World Series. The Huskers’ postseason runs ended after winning the first game and losing the next two of the Knoxville Super Regional.

Nebraska finishes the 2025 season 43-15 overall and 17-5 in the Big Ten. They advanced to their first super regional since 2014.

The Lady Vols’ ace Karlyn Pickens allowed two hits, no runs, and struck out 10 batters in seven innings. The SEC Pitcher of the Year gave up one walk, one hit by pitch, and one wild pitch, all in the fifth inning. Nebraska had the bases loaded in the fifth but failed to score.

Husker pitcher Jordy Bahl gave up four hits and one run, a home run by Ella Dodge in the first inning. The home run was the difference in the game.

Dodge’s homer and squandered fifth inning opportunity are the difference for Nebraska

Gabby Leach hit a lead-off single, but her foot was out of the box, and she was called back. Bahl struck her out. Ella Dodge hit a home run on top of the wall and bounced into the fence to take a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Sammie Bland‘s sidearm throw from third base was out of reach of Bella Bacon for Clarke to reach. Mealer hit a chopper up the middle for a single. Ava Kuszak had a chance to catch it but didn’t. Leach flied out to end the inning with two on base.

Pickens and Tennessee retired 12 straight Huskers. They made several great defensive plays. Kinsey Fiedler laid out in center field to rob Abbie Squier of the hit. In the first, Dodge made a diving catch at second and gunned out Bland at first base with a throw from the ground.

The Huskers had two defensive errors. Along with Bland’s throwing error, Kuszak had a hit slip past her for a single. Luckily for the Big Red, neither resulted in a run.

Nebraska’s first hit was in the top of the fifth inning. Hannah Camenzind sent a slow roller down the third-base line for a single. She moved to second on a wild pitch. NU loaded the bases with a single, a hit by pitch, and a walk, but Lauren Camenzind struck out to squander a huge opportunity. The chance might keep head coach Rhonda Revelle up at night.

Gabby Leach hit a lead-off single in the fifth and stole second. Bahl struck out Dodge and Gibson to leave Leach in scoring position.

Pickens and Tennessee sat down the last six batters to advance to the WCWS for the ninth time in program history and first since 2023.
