Nebraska has secured its third commitment for the 2027 recruiting class with Husker legacy offensive tackle Matt Erickson. Erickson, from Omaha (Neb.) Millard North, has had an offer from Nebraska since June 2024. He chose Nebraska over other offers from Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Iowa State, and Toledo.

“The whole coaching staff at Nebraska have made me feel like family since day one,” Matt Erickson said.

Matt’s father, Mike Erickson, was part of Nebraska’s 2000 recruiting class. After Matt transferred from Millard West to Millard North, his father talked to him about the importance of these kinds of changes in football.

“My dad did talk to me a little bit about it and how it’s good to learn from different perspectives,” Erickson said. “It’s good to go through the changes, work with other coaches, and see other coaching styles.”

Erickson made it to Lincoln several times last fall. He was also in Lincoln for the home opener against Akron. Last season, he started to see a difference in the team.

“The offensive line looked more experienced, and you can see the work they’ve put in during the off-season, in the weight room and on the field.

It was exciting to see true freshmen get on the field, especially on the line. You can tell they’ve spent time in the weight room! I also loved seeing Sam Sledge out there!”

Erickson is the third commitment for Nebraska in the 2027 class. He joins four-star quarterback Trae Taylor from Lake in the Hills (Ill.) Carmel Catholic and four-star safety Tory Pittman III from Omaha (Neb.) Central.

The Huskers have landed offered three in-state recruits from the 2027 class. The only uncommitted target is Omaha (Neb.) Central running back Kylonn Haynie.
