On National Signing Day, Smith signed with UNC despite never having visited the school. The Tar Heel staff extended an offer just two days before his commitment. He enrolled at UNC in the summer.
Smith had officially visited East Carolina the weekend prior to Signing Day and was widely expected to sign with the Pirates before UNC’s late offer. His brother, Yannick, a former four-star wide receiver, signed with ECU in the 2024 class.
Smith also held offers from East Tennessee State, Florida Atlantic, Georgia State, and Charleston Southern.
