In a weekly YouTube live show that airs each Wednesday, BlueandGold.com’s Tim HydeAshton Pollard and Mike Singer discuss and react to the latest news and notes in the world of Notre Dame football and recruiting.

Among the topics in the show is PFF listing Notre Dame rising sophomore quarterback Tyler Buchner as the No. 46 signal-caller going into the 2022 season. Is that a fair or bogus spot for Buchner? And where do the opposing quarterbacks the Irish face fall on the list?

On3’s Ivan Maisel published an article Wednesday morning that broke down his top 11 college football venues nationally. The group discusses the list and gives their thoughts; where does Notre Dame fall on it?

And of course, there’s plenty of Notre Dame quarterback recruiting talk as well.

Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner has much to prove. There is no denying that.

This week, Pro Football Focus reaffirmed that statement with the outlet’s annual rankings of the top college quarterbacks in the country. Buchner, a true sophomore who is the favorite to be named Notre Dame’s 2022 starter, ranked No. 46 on the list.

Buchner has yet to start a single college game. He appeared in 10 as a freshman, but those reps came mostly in package situations. He was asked to run, and he was asked to run a lot. This fall, he’s going to be asked to do it all.

Been there, done that.

Buchner accounted for 6,084 yards and 81 touchdowns as a junior at Bishop’s School in La Jolla, Calif, in 2019. Fifty-three of those scores came through the air. So did nearly 75% of the yardage. He can do more than run, but analysts haven’t seen it at the collegiate level.

Last year, Buchner ran 46 times for 336 yards and three touchdowns. His average yards per carry (7.3) ranked first among all ball carriers who rushed at least 10 times. He went 21-of-35 for 298 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions.
