If you’re a college football fan and you didn’t know the names Michael Mayer or Isaiah Foskey prior to the last week of July, you probably do now. The tight end and defensive end, respectively, were the stars of Notre Dame’s Shamrock Series uniform reveal, which was a parody of the 2009 movie “The Hangover” and filmed in Las Vegas alongside head coach Marcus Freeman.

As a result of the increased visibility, both Mayer and Foskey saw their On3 NIL Valuations increase substantially, and they now have the highest marks on the team. The metric is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Prior to the spoof, Foskey’s valuation was sitting at $336,000. It’s now up to $607,000, an 81 percent increase since Aug. 2. Social media following also plays a role in the valuation, and Foskey has 20,000 followers across Instagram and Twitter. His per-post estimation is $328.

Mayer’s NIL valuation was hovering around $575,000 before July. Now, it’s up to $846,000 and climbing. The All-American, who notched 71 catches for 840 yards and seven touchdowns last season, also recently inked NIL deals with Rhoback and Levi’s.

Notre Dame’s top offensive player has nearly double the number of followers as Foskey; Mayer has 29,000 on Instagram and 8,500 on Twitter. As such, his per-post value is around double that of his teammate, sitting at $676.

Mayer’s NIL valuation is No. 23 in the NIL 100, while Foskey checks in at No. 45. The NIL 100 is a collection of both football and men’s basketball athletes in high school and college. When the pool shrinks to college football players only, Mayer is 17th, while Foskey is 36th.

The only other Irish player with an NIL Valuation inside of the NIL 100 is Joe Alt. The offensive lineman’s mark currently sits at $540,000, which is 62nd.

Mayer and Foskey are presumably about to play their last seasons of college football. Mayer is draft-eligible after this year as a junior, while Foskey will be a senior who elected to return to Notre Dame for one final season. Both players find themselves in first-round territory on several early 2023 NFL Draft boards, including that of ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. That increased visibility will only continue to augment their respective NIL Valuations.
