COLUMBUS — Dawand Jones was one half of one of the best tackle tandems in the country last season.

He’s officially off the NFL Draft board.

Jones was taken No. 111 overall by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday afternoon.

Jones is the fifth Ohio State player to be selected in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Former Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud was taken No. 2 overall by the Houston Texans, while left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. was selected No. 6 overall by the Arizona Cardinals and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba went No. 20 overall to the Seattle Seahawks. Defensive end Zach Harrison was the lone Buckeyes prospect to be picked on Day Two — he went No. 75 overall to the Atlanta Falcons.

After an impressive second season as the Buckeyes starting right tackle, Dawand Jones made Reese’s Senior Bowl history earlier this year. Jones’ wingspan of 89.5 inches is equivalent to a normal wingspan of a person who stands 7-foot-5. At 6-foot-8 and 374 pounds, Jones became a heavy topic in draft chatter as a potential first-round selection.

Jones didn’t work out at the Buckeyes’ Pro Day, however, citing an injury and the fact that he didn’t have much else to prove to teams.

Still, Jones’ tape does speak for itself to an extent. Pro Football Focus documents Jones’ success in the run game quite well. Jones registered PFF run blocking grades of 90.6 (2021) and 85.0 (2022) in two seasons as Ohio State’s starting right tackle.

He was also impressive in pass-blocking situations, as well. He allowed only five pressures last season, the fewest given up by a tackle with 300-plus pass blocking snaps in 2022. He allowed no sacks for the Buckeyes last season. In two seasons as the starting right tackle at Ohio State, Jones allowed three total sacks in 887 pass blocking snaps.

Dawand Jones is officially taking that talent to the NFL, and he has found a new home. He’s now a member of the Cleveland Browns after being selected in the fourth round of the draft.

Ohio State players still available

Ohio State still has plenty of talented players on the board, ready to be selected in the NFL Draft this weekend. Those players include center Luke Wypler, cornerback Cam Brown, safety Ronnie Hickman, safety Tanner McCalister, defensive tackles Jerron Cage and Taron Vincent and long snapper Bradley Robinson.
