COLUMBUS — Ohio State is getting a massive piece of its offense back for another year: star tailback TreVeyon Henderson is returning to the Buckeyes for his senior season.

Henderson made the news public on social media Friday afternoon, becoming the latest underclassman to pledge another year for Ryan Day and the Buckeyes as they pursue a national title in 2024.

TreVeyon Henderson was a superstar at Hopewell High School(Hopewell, Virginia) before committing to the Buckeyes. He was the No. 20 overall player, No. 1 running back and No. 1 player in Virginia for the class of 2021, which was a loaded recruiting class for Ohio State. And he immediately lived up to his star ranking.

After breaking out with a long catch and run for a touchdown in his career opener at Minnesota during his freshman season, Henderson quickly took over the starting running back role. He never gave it back, and he set records as a freshman, running for 270 yards in a win over Tulsa early in his career.

Injuries slowed him down late in his freshman season and during the entirety of his sophomore campaign. He even missed time during this past season due to a cheap-shot hit he took in the win over Notre Dame. But when he’s healthy, he is one of the top running backs in all of college football.

The superstar back had 854 yards rushing in just nine games this season, including 200 total yards in two different games late in the season, adding another potent layer to the Ohio State offense.

After the second of those two games with more than 200 total yards, Henderson’s teammates had high praise for what he was doing in the Ohio State offense.

“I think as you guys saw today, he’s become a great weapon for us,” Buckeyes then-starting quarterback Kyle McCord said of Henderson. “When he’s healthy, I don’t think there’s a better back in the country. I mean, he’s he’s doing an unbelievable job. … In that situation on third down, just get the ball in his hands and good things are going to happen.

“It’s exactly what he did.”

TreVeyon Henderson has done that repeatedly over the last three years.

But he’s not finished, and he feels he has more to accomplish at Ohio State. The superstar tailback will return for his senior season, giving Ohio State a major boost to its future offensive attack.
