Trio of Buckeyes players named Walter Camp preseason All-Americans

Spring practice isn’t even halfway over, and the preseason accolades have already started to roll in. Three Ohio State players — linebacker Tommy Eichenberg and wide receivers Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka — were named 2023 Walter Camp preseason All-Americans Friday.

Eichenberg and Harrison are first-team selections, while Egbuka earned a second-team nod.

Eichenberg piled up more solo tackles (77) in 2022 than he had total tackles (64) in 2021. He thrived in defensive coordinator Jim Knowles’ 4-2-5 system. Eichenberg was even productive while playing with a pair of injured hands down the stretch. He wasn’t only a great tackler for the Buckeyes — he was also one of their best pass rushers with the third-most pressures (23) on the team, per Pro Football Focus, not to mention 2.5 sacks.

Harrison received unanimous first-team All-American honors this past season, something no Ohio State wide receiver had accomplished before. Harrison didn’t have a drop the first 11 games of the year and finished his sophomore campaign with 77 catches, 1,263 receiving yards and 14 receiving touchdowns. Harrison was a Biletnikoff Award finalist in 2022 and is considered by some to be the best wideout in college football right now.

Like Harrison, Egbuka went over 1,000 receiving yards last season. He had four or more receptions in all but two games, and he hit the six-catch mark eight times, including against Michigan in the regular season finale and against Georgia in the Peach Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal. Egbuka rounded out the year with 74 receptions, 1,151 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns. Additionally, he logged 11 carries for 87 yards and two rushing scores.

Three things we’re watching for at Student Appreciation Day

Ohio State is offering students a sneak peak at the 2023 Buckeyes for the program’s annual Student Appreciate Day Saturday.

There will be plenty to watch as Ohio State hosts its eighth practice of the spring season. The quarterback battle between Kyle McCord and Devin Brown is still ongoing. That’s the heartbeat of the offseason chatter.

But Lettermen Row has three things it’s watching for in the Woody this weekend. Check it out here.

Compact but crucial guest list as Ohio State prepares for halfway mark of spring camp

It’s another important recruiting weekend in Columbus. Ohio State won’t have as many recruits on campus as it did last week for the first scrimmage of spring ball, when there were more than two dozen prospects and their families in attendance. But there are still several recruits expected at the Woody for the Buckeyes’ Student Appreciation Day.

Ohio State added a pair of 2024 commits earlier this week: twin offensive linemen Deontae and Devontae Armstrong from St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio. They are both four stars, according to On3, which currently ranks the Buckeyes’ six-member class fourth nationally.
