Tyleik Williams shows off impressive first-year numbers for Buckeyes

Tyleik Williams is already building toward a bigger breakout season next year for Ohio State. The first phase of that was complete after a freshman season that featured plenty of flashes.

The numbers are there, and they show just how good Williams can be for the Buckeyes. He had a 22.1 percent pass-rush win-percentage rate last season according to ProFootball Focus, the highest among Big Ten interior defensive lineman. He did that as a freshman.

Now with another offseason in the Buckeyes famed training program, Williams could be due for an even larger jump during his second campaign under defensive line coach Larry Johnson.

The first act was certainly impressive for Tyleik Williams. He’s already building toward the encore performance.

Talking Stuff breaks down Buckeyes recruiting

National Signing Day commences next Wednesday, and the Buckeyes are expected to officially add two more players – potentially three.

Defensive lineman Hero Kanu is already entrenched in the class after signing during the early period and publicly announcing his commitment afterward.

But defensive lineman Omari Abor and interior offensive lineman Carson Hinzman have not yet signed their national letters of intent with the Buckeyes. Will the staff have to sweat out any last-minute pushes from other programs for those two commits?

And what about Christen Miller? The defensive lineman out of Georgia is down to the Bulldogs, Buckeyes and Oregon Ducks for his final considerations. Will Miller’s relationships with Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson and Ryan Day be enough to carry the day?

Those are some of the key discussion points on this week’s episode of Talking Stuff: The Ohio State Recruiting Podcast presented by Byers Auto.

ICYMI: Lettermen Live hosted by Roosters

The Buckeyes have hit the ground running during a critical offseason for the Buckeyes program.

To break down those changes, Lettermen Live, hosted by Roosters on Olentangy River Road, returns for another episode of analysis.

Lettermen Row senior writer Austin Ward hosts a group that features former Buckeyes linebacker Bobby Carpenter, former Ohio State defensive back Tyvis Powell and Lettermen Row beat writer Spencer Holbrook.

The crew touches on the return of players to the facilities for winter workouts as Ohio State assistant athletic director for football sports performance – aka the strength and conditioning coach – Mickey Marotti and his staff gear up the Buckeyes.

In other national news, Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow has made headlines by leading the Bengals to the AFC Championship Game in his second season – and first playoff appearance – in the NFL.

The Lettermen Live crew discusses Burrow’s sizzling start to his career. And they revisit Burrow’s career at Ohio State, where the former Buckeyes quarterback lost a battle to Dwayne Haskins before transferring to LSU and winning a Heisman Trophy and national championship.
