OU freshman catcher Corri Hicks to enter transfer portal

We know the story that OU softball has so many freshmen on the team for the 2025 season. Well, not all of them saw the field.
Now that the Sooners season is over, it’s officially transfer portal time. The first one appears to be in as D1Softball’s Justin McLeod reports catcher Corri Hicks entered the portal Tuesday afternoon.
Hicks later posted her intentions to enter on social media.
She made 24 appearances last year. Hicks had 23 plate appearances, and she hit .261 with a 1.045 OPS, three home runs and eight RBIs.
“She’s been waiting. She’s got a body that is big and strong and it’s just the inexperience,” said OU head coach Patty Gasso after Hicks hit a walk-off home run against Boston University in the Norman Regional. “Just to give her that opportunity was huge for all of us, and her confidence especially. She did a good job behind the plate today too. I was watching. She’s been working really hard to learn a few things and she’s taken it on and you could see it show up in the game today as well.”
Hicks was in the backup catcher role, behind Isabela Emerling. But it became increasingly apparent that Hicks wasn’t going to find a lot of time in 2025 and maybe not much going forward.

OU is set to bring in a great recruiting class, including the top catcher in the nation.
The Sooners aren’t losing a massive senior class. It’s just the trio of Cydney Sanders and pitchers Sam Landry and Isabella Smith.
However, because of the deep class coming and because of the way not everybody got significant playing time? The portal departures might be a bit bigger than what we’ve seen from OU softball in the past.
OU’s quest for a fifth straight national championship ended Monday evening in a thrilling 3-2 loss to Texas Tech in the semifinals of the Women’s College World Series.
