It’s been a month of first with the On3 acquisition of Rivals and after releasing the first ever Rivals300 earlier this week, our experts now turn their attention to the class of 2027. We take a look at a few of the main storylines that stand out to us in first edition of the Rivals300 for the class.

Who are the superstars that Oklahoma is truly chasing?

Is this in-state class as special as we’ve expected?

Take a look at all of it as we move forward and the focus begins to truly shift to 2027 for the Sooners and the rest of college football

Three Top 10 Prospects Have been in Norman Recently

Oklahoma’s 2026 class may be trying to close in on some elite prospects as it begins to wind down some of its efforts but the 2027 class has shown strong early signs. None stronger than the reality that of the five offers the Sooners have made in the Rivals300 top 10, three have been to Norman since March.

During this summer’s camps the Sooners played host to the nation’s No. 6 prospect, and No. 1 defensive lineman, Jalen Brewster. The big man from Cedar Hill, Texas has been dominant every time we’ve seen him over the last 18 months and has singled out the Sooners and Oregon as two who stand out for him early on.

Also in Norman was offensive lineman Albert Simien who impressed everyone with his length, size, and athleticism. During camp he worked at offensive tackle though listed as an interior offensive linemen in the rankings. The Sooners are hoping to get a return visit this fall but the in-state Tigers seem to be the heavy favorite at this point.

“The camp was a good experience to get to know the coaching staff and all the other position coaches,” Simien said recently. “But also, I got a little visit and tour to see how the players get to go throughout their daily activities and based on the whole regimen of their day-to-day.”

One prospect who hasn’t been connected with the Sooners a lot but was on campus back on March 8 is the nation’s No. 7 overall prospect John Merideth from Euless (Texas) Trinity. It’s a bit unclear just where the Sooners are with him but he’ll be one of the most contentious battles in the state of Texas.

OKPreps Stars Recognized for Big Year In-State

For years there has been loads of discussion about just how strong the in-state crop in Oklahoma was for 2027. And it seems that almost daily new names are emerging around the state but the six prospects to make the top 300 were all clearly well-known names with extensive offer lists.

Leading the way is Ft. Gibson, Okla. star Cooper Hackett who figures to compete for five-star status before all is said and done. He’s been heavily discussed over the past few weeks with the Sooners the long-thought favorites getting a challenge from an unusual place, Texas Tech.

Joining him along the offensive line in-state is Bixby’s Kaeden Penny at No. 34. The big blocker doesn’t seem overly locked in but the Sooners have been in with him since early on and seem a true contender.

The next in line is one of just two defenders on the list, Washington’s Case Alexander. The son of Sooners tight end standout Stephen Alexander, and younger brother of Iowa State tight end Cooper Alexander has made it clear his future is at linebacker. The nation’s No. 168 player seems to have the potential to climb this list considerably.

Next up are a pair of tight ends, Norman North’s Ben Kolar and Choctaw’s Titus Hawk. Kolar is at No. 238 with Hawk coming in a little later at 258. Hawk, is an Oklahoma State legacy but has spoken highly of Joe Jon Finley so far. Kolar meanwhile comes from a family of FBS players but has always had a soft spot for the hometown Sooners.

The final of the six-man party from OKPreps is Broken Arrow cornerback Bryson Brown. The big and physical corner has been making the rounds across the country but has built a solid early relationship with Oklaohma.

Sooners QB Offer Finds Himself in the Rivals300

Obviously the cornerstone to any recruiting class is at quarterback and the Sooners have one offer out at the position – Shreveport (La.) Evangel star Peyton Houston. He was an early offer for Oklahoma following a strong summer camp in the summer of 2024 and even after a change at offensive coordinator the Sooners have only built a stronger relationship with the nation’s No. 156 overall player.

“It really has only gotten stronger, seeing a [spring] practice and how the offense flows with a new coaching staff, they’ve got that really turned around. They’ve got it going,” Houston said recently.

“[Oklahoma is] very high up there, my relationship with coach Arbuckle, it’s just different. Coach Kuz puts in mind like my dad.”

Former OU Commit Remains Highly-Regarded

Oklahoma doesn’t currently have a 2027 commitment but had one for quite some time and he’s yet another member of this Rivals300 list. Denton (Texas) Guyer pass rusher Zane Rowe has been well known since before his first high school snaps.

The big man, coming in at No. 125, was an Oklahoma football pledge for over eight months before backing off early this year.

The Sooners, thanks in no small part to Miguel Chavis, remain serious contenders as Rowe continues to look at numerous programs around the country.
