Business is picking up for 2023 athlete Clinton Jackson.

Jackson, who doesn’t carry a recruiting ranking from On3, is still in the single digits in offers. However, his list grew by two this week. Ole Miss came through first (March 30), followed by Troy a day later.

Other schools in pursuit include Virginia, USF, Georgia State and Charlotte.

“It means a lot knowing I still have a year of senior high school left,” Jackson said of the Ole Miss offer, in an exclusive interview with the Ole Miss Spirit. “I talk to (Ole Miss cornerbacks) coach (Sam) Carter, and I like their attitude and determination.”

Jackson said Virginia is charging in his recruitment.

“They’re coming hard,” he said of the Cavaliers. They were his very first offer, having extending him a scholarship in November.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Jackson plays both ways for Schley County High School in Ellaville, Ga. He totaled 616 yards and seven touchdowns on 32 catches as a wide receiver last season. He also had 53 total tackles, four tackles for loss, four passes break-ups and two interceptions on defense.

With Carter leading the Rebels’ efforts, Ole Miss appears to be projecting him at safety in college. Carter is in his first season at Ole Miss. He was hired by now-third-year head coach Lane Kiffin to replace Terrell Buckley in January. Ole Miss and Buckley mutually agreed to part ways.

Carter came over from Arkansas, where he spent two seasons. The Razorbacks tallied 26 total interceptions since 2020, the second most in the SEC behind only Alabama. Other coaching stops for Carter — a former All-Big 12 safety at TCU — include Missouri.

Ole Miss finished with a 10-3 record in 2021-22. The Rebels reached the Sugar Bowl for the 10th time in school history.

“I will make my decision after my last senior football game,” Carter said.

Carter has lined up spring/summer visits to Virginia, Coastal Carolina and USF. Ole Miss and Virginia are currently tied at 50.0 percent apiece in On3 RPM (Recruiting Prediction Machine) predictions for him.
