Ole Miss has won six of its first seven games for the third straight season, a streak the Rebels last pulled off way back in the 60s.

And yet their lone loss, at Alabama, still looms. Ole Miss is knocking on the door of the Top 10, and the Rebels could very well play their way into the College Football Playoff discussion if they continues to stack wins.

Winning is all Ole Miss — winners of three straight — has done since it left Tuscaloosa.

“After the loss to Alabama, we had reevaluating to do,” Ole Miss cornerback Zamari Walton said Tuesday.

Walton and Rebel offensive lineman Victor Curne both met the media to discuss the practice week thus far, as well as the team’s upcoming opponent, Vanderbilt. The Rebels and Commodores kick off Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network.

Walton, a transfer from Georgia Tech, continued: “But I think we did a pretty good job bouncing back and focusing on the next game. I think we’re doing a good job.”

Ole Miss (6-1, 3-1 SEC) will likely need to win out and have Alabama lose twice to reach the SEC title game for the first time in school history. But even if the Crimson Tide loses just one, the Rebels could make a real case for four-seed consideration, assuming the Tide loses to Georgia in Atlanta.

Of course, for the Rebels, such scenarios are little more than media fodder. Walton said he and his fellow Rebels are only focused on going 1-0 each week, and the Commodores are next.

“They have a pretty good offense,” Walton said. “Good receivers on the outside. It’ll be a pretty good matchup for the (defensive backs). We’ll see what we can do. They pass the ball a lot, so it’ll be good for us.

“They have NFL-draftable receivers on the outside and in the slot. It’ll be good for us to see them this week.”

Here’s everything Walton and Curne had to say Tuesday.
