On3 national basketball recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw joins #notcommitted to breakdown the monumental Monday for Ole Miss basketball and head coach Chris Beard. Four-star Overtime Elite center John Bol committed to the Rebels, becoming the program’s highest-rated commit.

Shaw gives his scouting report on Bol, how he thinks he fits in Beard’s system and the potential impact he could make on the Rebels’ program.

Bol originally committed to Florida in June, before de-committing a few weeks later. He is the No. 34 overall recruit, the 4th-ranked player in Georgia and the No. 5 center in the 2024 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average which utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

When asked why he picked Ole Miss, John Bol emphasized the importance of relationships and trust.

“Coach (Al) Pinkins has been recruiting me for a long time and we have a great relationship,” Bol said. “Coach Beard was talking to me some when he was at Texas, too. He’s a great coach. They did really good at building that relationship with me. I love the SEC and Oxford is really nice.”

Beard is big on this part of his job. He’s been a master communicator and motivator via relationship-building at each stop of his coaching career. He also believes in the power of delivering a clear and concise message. Bol echoed this upon announcing his commitment.

“He wants to push me to be the best I can be and help develop me into an NBA player which he has a great track record of doing,” Bol said. “He truly believes in me.”
