On Thursday, Ole Miss and Kermit Davis added a big-time piece to their 2023 class when Blytheville, Ark., power forward Rashaud Marshall committed to the Rebels.

The 6-foot-8, 215 pound recruit from the Natural State chose Ole Miss over notable offers from Kansas, Missouri, Mississippi State, TCU and Texas A&M.

Marshall spoke with On3’s Jamie Shaw about receiving the offer from Davis and his staff back in May and how it got his attention from the jump.

“This offer was big for me. My pops always wanted me to go to Ole Miss. I saw they are hard workers down there; they don’t go for no soft stuff. They’ll be in there until the end.”

During the recruitment process, Marshall took an unofficial visit to Oxford back in March and it seemingly was enough for him to focus all his energy on the Rebels.

Shaw calls Ole Miss’ second 2023 commit a “low block bully”.

Rashaud Marshall was one of the revelations of the April period. A 6-foot-8, 230-pound presence, Marshall is a blue-collar throwback type player of sorts. He wants to bury his man on the block and battle for rebounds. The Arkansas native has confidence scoring over both shoulders, and his touch extends out to the three-point line. Look for Marshall to enter On3s 2023 rankings in our next update.

Marshall’s late father was an Ole Miss fan. That is the lone official visit Marshall has taken. Since the live period started in April, offers from Missouri and Kansas have caught Marshall’s eye.

He joins Parklane Academy (Miss.) small forward Jacob Gazzo in Davis’ 2023 class.

Marshall is the No. 77 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s the No. 15-ranked power forward in the nation and the No. 2 prospect from the state of Arkansas.

The newest Rebel commit spoke with Shaw about his game and gave himself a self-assessment after a breakout showing at the 3SSB Circuit in April.

“I am a big-time post player. I love playing, banging around in the post,” Marshall told On3. “This year was big for me; I learned how to work hard, no days off. I am working on my perimeter skills now. I’m handling the ball more, shooting it a little.”

On3’s take

Rashaud Marshall is a strong, burly post player on the block. He is physical on the block, buries his man deep, and gives a big target. Marshall has good hands and can finish, through contact, with both hands around the basket. He did not take a jump shot, but the free-throw form looked like you could build on it. There were a couple plays where he ripped through and attacked from the top of the key. Hard worker, blue-collar, and one to watch enter the rankings at the next update.
