ToC Postgame: Jaxson Dart's growth "difference between seven (or) ten wins" for Ole Miss

Ben Garrett and Bradley Sowell needed a moment after Ole Miss’ 28-10 win over Troy on Saturday.

Well, a full night, actually, and they’re still processing the good and (sometimes very) bad from the 2022 season opener.

The Rebels were led by a dominant rushing attack and a stifling defensive effort, but all any of us can seem to talk about is the quarterbacks, specifically starter Jaxson Dart.

And for good reason.

“His development is the difference between seven and ten wins this year,” said Sowell, a former Ole Miss offensive lineman and eight-year NFL veteran.

Dart took every snap until the 12-minute mark of the fourth quarter, when he gave way to Luke Altmyer, who will start next week against Central Arkansas.

Neither quarterback inspired all that much confidence, meaning the quarterback battle, frustratingly, drags on.

“I thought he was doing really well until the last two series,” Kiffin said of Dart. “That is exactly what he knows has been his issue — not speeding things up and understanding the timing of our passing game and not getting away with those throws (including an interception).

“Those throws don’t work. Certainly they don’t work in this conference. (Dart) was doing a really good job until then. We’ll turn it into a positive over the next 24 hours. As much as it’s painful to watch, it’s good sometimes.”

Ben and Brad cover it all, as well as hand out helmet stickers, name Brad’s Big Thing from the game and open the listener mailbag to answer your questions.

Ole Miss its in the developmental stage stage with its quarterbacks. Unfortunately, the rest of the Rebel roster is built to win now. What does mean for their ultimate win-loss total?
