The new agreed upon contract between Ole Miss and football head coach Lane Kiffin was announced on Saturday night, but the full financial terms of the deal were released on Monday.

Kiffin’s base salary of the new four-year contract starts at $7,250,000 for the 2022 season and then increases $100K every year.

Based on the 2021 salaries of FBS head coaches, Kiffin’s new contract would put him as the No. 8 highest paid coach and would move him up to a tie for No. 7 with Jimbo Fisher in four years.

Of course, all of that is arbitrary as the coaching salary world was turned on his heads in the past couple weeks with the new contracts for Brian Kelly and Lincoln Riley at their respective new places of employment.

When it comes to incentives, Kiffin has a strong chance to make over $8 million annually.

Here is a breakdown of the annual incentive awards:

  • $150,000 for each win against an SEC opponent, starting with the fifth SEC win of the regular season.
  • Regular-season victory against a non-conference, Power 5 opponent: $100K per win
  • Participation in SEC Championship game: $150K; OR win SEC Championship game: $400K
  • Participation in the Birmingham Bowl or Independence Bowl game, or their successors: $50K
  • Participation in a Group of Six SEC bowl games (Taxslayer, Outback, Belk, Music City, Texas, Liberty), or their successors: $100K
  • Participation in the Citrus Bowl, or its successor: $125K
  • Participation in any College Football Playoff Access Bowl Game (Sugar, Rose, Orange, Cotton, Fiesta, Peach) that is not a CFP semi-final game: $250K
  • Participation in CFP Semifinal Game: $500K; OR advance to National Championship Game: $750K; OR win National Championship Game: $1 Million
  • Coach of the Year Awards: $50K for SEC Coach of the Year; and $100K for National Coach of the Year
  • Academic incentives: Single year APR of 950-974: $100K OR Single Year APR of 975 or above: $150K

There are also incentives tied into the contract that are triggered based on season ticket sales.

If Ole Miss sells over 30,000 football season tickets then a $50K bonus is triggered. There is a $50K bonus triggered for seasons tickets sold above 35,000; 37,500 and 40,000.

Kiffin’s assistant coach and support staff salary pool will remain it in the top half of the SEC league average, according to the term sheet. The salary pool for the support staff will be set at a minimum of $3.5 million.
