The 2023 college football regular season is in the books and Ole Miss once again made some history with its second 10-win season in the last three years.

Now the dust is settling on the final weekend of the regular season and the No. 12 Rebels (10-2, 6-2 Southeastern Conference) certainly had their eyes on Saturday’s action as it might have made their postseason destination potentially alter, though next Saturday will determine things for certain.

With over a month, at least, until Ole Miss plays its bowl game to wrap up the year and another shot at the program’s first 11-win season there is plenty of housekeeping to be done.

The transfer portal opens up a week from Monday and the early National Signing Day is a little over three weeks away it is time to do a final check on the Ole Miss redshirt tracker.

During the Rebels bye week the first update was done on checking which freshmen had burned their redshirt opportunity and which players still had the chance. Now that the final six games are completed an update is in order.

By early October some major Ole Miss names had already burned through their redshirt jerseys, including linebacker Suntarine Perkins and wide receiver Ayden Williams. Other top freshmen were flirting with the four-game limit but had not crossed it at that point, including running back Kedrick Reescano.

Reminder that any Ole Miss freshman can play in the upcoming bowl game as it does not count towards the four-game limit.

Below is the full list of Ole Miss freshmen who have and have not burned through their redshirt.

Freshmen who have burned redshirt:

  • AJ Brown – 12 games
  • Suntarine Perkins – 12 games
  • Ayden Williams – 10 games
  • Kedrick Reescano – 10 games
  • Cayden Lee – 9 games

Freshmen who can still redshirt in 2023, as of now:

When looking at some of the number of games for certain Ole Miss players it is a bit eye-opening but in this NIL, transfer portal era it is hard for coaching staffs to fathom a large percentage, or all, of a freshmen class will stay for five years, or even a handful. So play em if you got em.

This is why Reescano and AJ Brown hit double figures in games. Most of the damage was done on the special teams unit. Lee’s tally went up as he became a good receiver in a backup role or during clean up minutes with Spencer Sanders.
