Week Eight: Pac-12 Power Rankings

A new week and we have a new leader atop the rankings. Oregon has floated around in that top three but really needed a signature win in the conference to push them to the top.

They got it on Saturday beating out last week’s top school, the UCLA football Bruins.

Week 7 Power Rankings

Let’s get into the power rankings for the week.

  1. Oregon – Absolute no-brainer here. Even ‘non-Oregon homers’ have the Ducks on top. It was a convincing win over the team most (myself) had at the No. 1 spot a week ago. Oregon should remain here as long as they keep winning.
  2. UCLA – It was a decisive win, but I’m not ready to write the Bruins off yet. They do drop to No. 2 and Utah is nipping at their heels. That said I still think the Bruins are the better team.
  3. Utah – Didn’t play last week but I didn’t see anyone good enough to leap-frog them.
  4. USC – Also didn’t play last week. So same as Utah. I will be interested to see the Trojans in Tucson this weekend.
  5. Oregon State – Had them at 5 last week and they won big. Granted, it was Colorado, but they handled their business.
  6. Washington State – Had Washington in this spot last week. UW played and won (barely) while Wazzu was idle. The Cougs have Utah this week so let’s see how that plays out.
  7. Washington – Woof. A lackluster 28-21 win over Cal in the Bay. They won, so credit them for that. But the Huskies are long removed from the hot 4-0 start that had Husky fans giddy.
  8. Arizona – Another idle team in the conference. And frankly nobody below them really showed me much.
  9. Stanford – Well, I had Cal here last week and they lost. The Cardinal leap-frogged ASU as well given that was their win.
  10. Cal – Probably going to drop again this week after what should be a blowout loss to Oregon.
  11. Arizona State – Lost to Stanford. Not really their fault. An interim coach isn’t much match for David Shaw. ASU has a gimme this week, Colorado.
  12. Colorado – Really makes you scratch your head how this team beat Cal.
