Penn State football hosted a media day for the members of the Class of 2021 on Wednesday. Numerous Nittany Lions met the media for the first time since coming to State College. We recap that, cover more quotes from a five-star recruit who will visit in June, and dive into other news and updates of the day.

Let’s dive into the top tweets and headlines about the Lions and college athletics on May 26.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with the media day.

Penn State made its scholarship and walk-on players who are entering year two of their career available outside of the Lasch Building. Perhaps the biggest takeaway (although there were many) was quarterback Christian Veilleux finally setting the record straight on how his last name should be pronounced.

“Vey-Er is the French way to say it,” Veilleux told Audrey Snyder of The Athletic. “Over the years, I’ve heard too many things. So, Vey-U became a big one for English speakers. But, the way you properly say it in French is Vey-Er.”

You can hear him say it in the clip below, and yes, he wants it to be said the French way. So, now we can all finally start saying it right heading into his second season on campus.

In other news, five-star Des Moines, Iowa offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor is again discussing his official visits. This time, he caught up with On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Perhaps the biggest revelation was the fact that he isn’t officially visiting Iowa because he’s been there so many times and wants to use his all-expenses-paid trips to see out-of-state schools. However, the Hawkeyes still lead in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine by a commanding margin.

Proctor will see Arkansas State (June 6), Alabama (June 10), Penn State (June 17), Oregon (June 24), and Michigan. (Sept. 3). He discussed all schools at the link below, but on the Nittany Lions specifically, he said:

“Even though I’ve never been there, the relationships I have with the coaches are very good, and they have treated me right since they started recruiting me. They want me in their system and want to help build me.”

Finally, for this section, here’s a fun clip of Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth talking about new teammate and Pitt alum Kenny Pickett:

Quote of the day

“A lot of walk-ons come through Penn State and did well. They make a huge impact. And some even eventually made it to the league. So I’m just gonna follow the process, trust them, do what they tell them what to do, and hopefully, that leads to success.”
