Penn State football’s place in the On3 Industry Football Team Recruiting Rankings remains steady following the addition of Eagan Boyer on Tuesday. Announcing his decision at noon, the three-star offensive lineman from North Carolina became the 12th commitment of the Nittany Lions’ Class of 2024.

In the process, Penn State’s position at No. 10 went unchanged.

The Nittany Lions round out a top 10 headlined by Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Michigan, Florida State, Notre Dame, and Tennessee. Penn State remains ahead of Oregon, LSU, Clemson, Auburn, and Arkansas, closing out the top 15.

Penn State’s overall score of 91.255 also remains unchanged. However, the Nittany Lions did experience a slight dip in their per-recruit average score. With an Industry Ranking score of 87.83, ranked No. 578 nationally and 37th among offensive tackles, Boyer’s commitment took Penn State’s average from 89.59 to 89.44. That average rating for the entirety of the class is currently 13th in college football.

Explaining the On3 Industry Team Rankings

Unique to On3, the Industry Team Rankings aim to create an accurate gauge of where classes stand against national trends. As a result, that means an evolving average number of commitments is used to calculate rankings scores throughout the entire cycle of a recruiting class.

Though Penn State currently has 12 commitments upon Boyer’s pledge, the average number used right now is six to determine team score. As not one of the Nittany Lions’ top six rated verbals, his addition left Penn State’s team score unchanged.

Penn State recruiting avalanche

The latest commitment to the program this cycle, Boyer’s addition continues a streak of recruiting success that has dominated the past month. Once ranked No. 19 just four weeks ago, the Nittany Lions have picked up eight of their 12 commitments since March 25. Of those verbals, four have come from offensive linemen in the past week.

Caleb Brewer kicked off the string of OL pledges on April 15. He was followed soon thereafter by Donovan Harbour (April 18), Garrett Sexton (April 24), and now Boyer.
