Penn State defensive tackle Hakeem Beamon has made his stay or go decision ahead of the 2024 season. The redshirt senior from Midlothian, Va. is coming back for another college season in State College.

Beamon came to the Nittany Lions as an On3 Industry Rankings four-star recruit in the Class of 2019. After a redshirt year, he played in eight games during the shortened 2020 season. He then missed all of the 2021 season for undisclosed reasons. The defensive lineman was back on the field in 2022. He started 12 of 13 games 16 tackles (six for loss) in addition to two quarterback hurries and four pass breakups, which was a high for the defensive line that year.

Then, in 2023, Beamon scattered 11 tackles (1.5 for loss) and a sack over 13 Penn State games. His 340 snaps led all defensive tackles during the recently completed 2023 season. Beamon also had a position-high 11 quarterback hurries, per Pro Football Focus. Beamon added weight before the 2023 season, and it paid off.

“I feel great at this weight. I feel just right. And I feel like I can finally take on double teams now and not get pushed out of the pocket and stuff,” Beamon said in August. “I just feel like it makes everybody better. If I can do my job, I know it makes everybody’s job easier. Especially me being on the inside. If you get some disruption on the inside, everything else just falls.

“So I just got to be disruptive. Just do it consistently. It’s a different feeling. It’s fun.”

Tracking Penn State roster news so far

There have been plenty of comings and goings since both the regular season and Peach Bowl ended. So far, we know that tight end Tyler Warren will return with Ellies and Beamon instead of leaving for the NFL. But, cornerbacks Kalen King, Johnny Dixon, and Daequan Hardy, defensive ends Adisa Isaac and Chop Robinson, offensive tackle Olu Fashanu and Caedan Wallace, and tight end Theo Johnson are all leaving eligibility on the table to move on to the next level.

Moving on to the transfer portal, punter Alex Bacchetta and receiver Dante Cephas are the only scholarship defections so far. Penn State has added scholarship receiver Julian Fleming from Ohio State and walk-on kicker Chase Meyer from Tulsa.
