Former Penn State Nittany Lions football quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson is headed to UConn.

Roberson will have three seasons of eligibility remaining upon his arrival in Storrs.

Roberson appeared in three games for the Nittany Lions this season, completing 11 of his 28 pass attempts for 85 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

He also carried the ball 12 times for 24 yards.

Roberson’s biggest opportunity came on the road against previously unbeaten Iowa. Starter Sean Clifford left the game due to injury just before halftime, leaving Roberson to try to protect the lead.

He struggled in his first meaningful action at the collegiate level. Penn State repeatedly took false start penalties, and Roberson threw two picks, completing just seven of his 21 passes.

Penn State scored only three points following Clifford’s exit, and Iowa came back to win, 23-20, handing the Lions their first loss.

True freshman Christian Veilleux passed Roberson on the depth chart by the end of the season, with a pair of other talented signal-callers in Beau Pribila and Drew Allar entering the room as well next month.

A former four-star prospect according to the On3 Consensus ratings, Roberson announced his decision to enter the portal on December 13, landing at UConn just over two weeks later.

The Huskies finished last season 1-11. Six different quarterbacks attempted a pass, achieving a combined completion percentage of 51.1.

Roberson will play for Jim Mora, who took the open job as UConn’s head coach on November 11.

Penn State WR Jahan Dotson opts out of Outback Bowl

Penn State is down another starter ahead of the Outback Bowl.

Star Nittany Lions receiver Jahan Dotson announced Monday that he will forego the postseason matchup with Arkansas to prepare for the 2022 NFL Draft.

Dotson was splendid in 2021 for Penn State after opting to return for a final season in blue and white. He caught 91 passes for 1,182 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior. It earned him first-team All-Big Ten honors and also an Associated Press third-team All-American nod.

“It’s been nothing but special to wear the Blue &White these past four years,” Dotson wrote on Twitter. “I will forever be thankful for the love Happy Valley has shown me and the people it has brought into my life.

“To my teammates and coaches, I appreciate you for pushing me every single day and shaping me to be the man 1 am today. To my family, I love you guys more than you could ever imagine, this journey has been nothing short of amazing and I cannot wait to continue it with you by my side.”

Linebacker Brandon Smith was the first Nittany Lion to announce that he would not play in the bowl game and head to the draft. He left eligibility on the table to do so.

Dotson did the same, as he could have returned for the free year offered by the NCAA because of the coronavirus pandemic.

That was never likely, however. Penn State coach James Franklin also expected some roster attrition prior to the team traveling to Tampa, Fla., for a New Year’s Day matchup with the Razorbacks at Raymond James Stadium.
