Penn State has made the top two for a four-star receiver. Camden, N.J., Winslow Township Class of 2024 recruit Jaylan Hornsby is down to the Nittany Lions and Texas A&M, he announced on Friday. The senior-to-be did not set a commitment date. But, one could be on the horizon now that he’s cut nearly 25 other schools who offered out of his recruitment. He previously told Blue-White Illustrated that the last week of June might be an ideal time to commit.

Penn State leads in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine by a wide margin. It’s powered, in part, by a trio of unofficial visits to campus. He also took an official visit back during the first weekend of June. He was hosted by Malick Meiga and has formed a strong bond with first-year Nittany Lions receivers coach Marques Hagans.

“I had a good relationship with Hagans before I came, but I think our bond definitely got closer this weekend,” Hornsby told BWI. “I met his family and he met mine. That was good to do. I feel like I know more about him as a person now. We chopped it up a lot.

“I think we have a good respect for each other and what we could also do to help each other potentially. He’s a really good dude, in addition to being a good coach.”

The Aggies hosted Hornsby for an official visit last weekend. Before that, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound receiver took a trip to West Virginia. However, the Mountaineers are now out of the mix.

What could Penn State get in Hornsby?

Blue-White Illustrated film analyst Thomas Frank Carr recently took a closer look at the players Penn State is targeting at receiver in the Class of 2024. He thinks Hornsby is an ‘X’ receiver at the next level. That would have him lining up on the short side of the field in coordinator Mike Yurcich’s offense.

“Truthfully, if Penn State were in a better position with X-body types, we’d be bumping Jaylan Hornsby over to Z,” Carr writes. “However, Hornsby checks in over 6-1 and has a great catch radius and hands. His ability to sky up to get the ball stands out on film as a player who can use his full frame to come down with catches. He’s not the fastest player in the world, but he’s fluid and efficient in his movements, making him a quality X candidate.”
