Penn State quarterback commit and Class of 2024 recruit Ethan Grunkemeyer has earned more praise from On3 after the Elite 11. The outlet’s director of scouting, Charles Power, published his superlative picks following the three-day event on Monday. He said the Lewis Center, Ohio native had the best mechanics out of the 20 passers who were on hand to compete in Los Angeles.

Ethan Grunkemeyer was the most pleasant surprise of the Elite 11 Finalists,” Power writes. “The Penn State pledge was extremely smooth and natural as a passer. The ball jumps out of his hand. Grunkemeyer drove the ball over the middle of the field as well as anyone. He pairs the smooth release and upper body flexibility a with weight transfer and lower body mechanics. Everything looked loose and natural. Grunkemeyer was the On3 MVP on Day 1, as he looked effortless in going through drill work.”

Grunkemeyer was named to the 2023 Elite 11 class by event organizers. On3 called him the No. 3 quarterback at the prestigious showcase.

On3 called Grunkemeyer its day one MVP. Its evaluators liked him from the start, and the future Penn State passed did little to change the early positive impressions as the drills continued.

“The Lewis Center (Ohio) Olentangy product was the On3 MVP on Day 1 with a very impressive day in drill work. He backed that up with a strong showing during his pro day, flashing loose, coordinated movements to go with his plus arm,” Power wrote. “Grunkemeyer had an up and down 7-on-7 session on Day 3 but still made a number of high level throws. He showed he could go throw for throw alongside the best quarterback prospects in the cycle.”

Grunkemeyer is currently ranked as the No. 474 player overall. He is the No. 28 passer, and No. 17 Class of 2024 recruit in the state of Ohio. He is a three-star in the On3 Industry Rankings.

“Grunkemeyer’s a guy who, for us in terms of the rankings, he’s an 89 right now. He’s in that next tier of guys who are on the cusp of being a four-star,” Power told BWI.

“So we’ll be kind of looking to see how he stacks up with the guys who are four stars currently. Then, when we get into his senior year in a couple of months, that’s when we’ll really drill down on where they all stack up.”
