Penn State news, notes, and updates for Nov. 10 include wrestling commits becoming signees, plus the latest from the football practice field and more.

It’s time to dive into Thursday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with news from the Nittany Lions after Wednesday’s practice. James Franklin made no headlines during his roughly 10-minute chat with reporters. He fielded questions about injuries at linebacker and along the offensive line and also addressed the evolution of Maryland starting quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, whose own health is in question after a poor performance last week, which followed an injury earlier this season.

“He’s always been an athletic guy and a guy that can create and extend plays,” Franklin said. “He can really make all the throws. His accuracy has gotten better, his touchdown to interception ratio has gotten better. I also think, from a system standpoint, they’ve done a really good job of putting him in a position to be successful. And also, recruiting well around him. He’s got a bunch of weapons around him.

“Like a lot of quarterbacks, he just continues to get better with experience. And, (he gets better) with the talent they surrounded him with.”

In other news, at least two Penn State Class of 2023 wrestling verbal commitments are now signees.

Michigan stars Braeden Davis, who is a two-time Fargo freestyle champion and three-time state champ, and Josh Barr, who has the same credentials as Davis, both tweeted photos of their signing ceremonies. Wrestlers, like basketball players and others, have a window to sign in November. It was not immediately clear if every commit sent his NLI in. The Lions do not typically announce it as their football and basketball counterparts do.

Other verbal commits who could be signees, but BWI has not been able to confirm it, include Aj Fricchione, Cael Nasdeo, Branden Wentzel, and Tyler Kasak.

Quote of the day

“He played really well for a true freshman. We’ve been excited about him for a while. We think he’s a multiple-position guy. We think he can play tackle, guard. He’s actually done some center as well, he’s a smart guy, he’s a mature guy. He’s picked it up fast. But he played well. Typically with offensive linemen, if you’re not talking about them, that’s a good thing. We’ve been very impressed with him. We’d still like to redshirt him if we could. I don’t know if that will be feasible.”
