Penn State vs UMass Recap: Jaylen Harvey Decision Day

There’s no shortage of Penn State targets inside the latest On300 update for the Class of 2025. With the Nittany Lions already up to five commitments in the class, they came into the day ranked No. 8 in the On3 Industry Team Rankings. They’re now down to No. 9 following moves at other schools.

Previously, linebacker DJ McClary was the only commit rated as a four-star prospect by On3, but that’s now climbed to two, as safety Omari Gaines was upgraded to a 90 overall rating in the most recent update. Gaines was previously ranked No. 207 nationally by On3 but was still considered a three-star prospect. Now, all 300 players hold a four-star rating. Nationally, Gaines, who plays at Shabazz in Newark, N.J., moved up 20 spots to No. 187 overall.

McClary also made a significant jump, climbing 71 spots from No. 137 to No. 66 in the nation. Defensively, the Jersey City native is up to 70 tackles on the season despite missing two games. He also has 10 tackles for loss, one sack and one interception that he took back for a touchdown. Offensively, he’s been excellent for Henry Snyder High School as well, totaling 905 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns while also throwing for 445 yards and four more scores.

Elsewhere, there are a few other notable players who made major moves. Cornerback Tariq Hayer and tight end Linkon Cure are now both ranked among the top 100 prospects in the country. Hayer, who plays at St. John’s College High in Washington, D.C., jumped from No. 113 to No. 53 in the nation. He’s one of Penn State’s top cornerback targets in the class.

Cure, who plays for Goodland High School in Kansas, has been one of the fastest-rising prospects in the country. Since picking up an offer from Penn State assistant coach Ty Howle at the beginning of September, he’s added 14 additional Power Five offers. Previously unranked, Cure is now up to No. 43 in the nation and No. 2 overall at his position.

Other notable Penn State targets who are now ranked among the On300 include offensive lineman Michael Carroll, cornerback DeShawn Stewart, quarterback Matt Zollers, wide receiver Michael Thomas II, wide receiver Lex Cyrus and safety Corey Costner.

With Carroll, Zollers and Cyrus all joining the list, Pennsylvania now has seven players ranked among the On300. It’s a strong class in Maryland and New Jersey, too, with 10 players ranked from each state.
