Grades and notes:
- Garrett Miller graded out as Purdue’s top offensive player by a substantial margin
- Pre-injury, Marcus Mbow took the top honors on Purdue’s offensive line. Losing him to injury for an extended period of time would be a huge blow to this group.
- Mostly middling grades for the offensive line, reflective of what the “eye test” saw throughout the day
- A solid day from Card per PFF
- Sheffield and Dixon-Veal drew decent grades from the receiver room, while Downing took the crown from the running back spot
Hudson Card’s passing chart:
- Clean: 20-32, 170 yards, INT
- Under pressure: 5-10, 77 yards, TD, INT
- Not blitzed: 20-29, 182 yards, TD (great grade)
- Blitzed: 5-13, 65 yards, 2 INT (poor grade)
- Play action: 10-10, 71 yards
- No play action: 15-32. 176 yards, TD, 2 INT
- Screen: 6-6, 20 yards
- No screen: 19-36, 227 yards, TD, 2 INT
- The chasm between grades in blitzed and not blitzed situations tells the story
- Card’s top grade came in the intermediate game, throwing 10-19 yards down the field
- Card made three “big-time throws” per PFF’s system of grading
- 0-5 on throws of 20+ yards downfield could be a bit misleading as two of those were dropped
Running game:
- Fine, yet unspectacular, grades for Purdue’s tailbacks
- No breakaway runs of 15+ yards for Purdue
- Purdue’s tailbacks forced just two missed tackles
- 82 of Purdue’s 140 yards came after contact
