Purdue lands ex-Louisville commit, three-star defensive lineman
Purdue stays hot on the recruiting trail, landing ex-Louisville commit and three-star Trotwood-Madison (Ohio) defensive lineman Jamarcus Whyce.
Whyce committed to the Cardinals on June 1st, but then took an official visit to West Lafayette the following week. Among the top contenders for the talented Ohio native were Maryland, Michigan State and West Virginia, among others. He has an 88.4 rating by On3, as well as being the 50th ranked defensive lineman and 30th ranked prospect out of Ohio in the 2026 class.
Purdue has bolstered its front lines in the last several weeks, as Whyce becomes the fifth defensive line commitment in the class for the Boilermakers. Whyce headlines that group alongside fellow Louisville flip Josiah Hope, in-state product Kobe Cherry, as well as Illinois standouts Aiden Solecki and Max Carmicle. The 6-foot-2, 290-pound defender plays on the interior for Trotwood-Madison, which is where he could project at the next level as he continues to bulk up. Whyce is a disrupter in the run game, shedding tackles to take down ball carriers in the backfield.

As Purdue builds its 2026 recruiting class, it has had a knack for flipping prospects committed elsewhere of late. Whyce now becomes the third ex-Louisville commit to flip to Purdue this month, alongside Hope and three-star athlete/safety Emoni Smith. EDGE Max Carmicle was also a flip this month, previously having pledged to Northern Illinois.
Whyce now gives the Boilermakers 19 commitments in the 2026 recruiting class. He joins the class of quarterback Corin Berry, defensive backs Raderrion Daniels, Emoni Smith and Dana Greenhow, inebacker Brayden Sweeney, running back Izaiah Wright, wide receivers Brandon Kinsey and Kymistrii Young, tight end ArMari Towns, and offensive linemen James Williams, Brock Brownfield, Terrell Berryhill and Rico Schrieber.
