11/29/2025 09:31:13 PMThe Mustangs did not close the gap in the third quarter. They are not out of the game, but SMU is running out of time. Cal will start the fourth quarter with a 2nd and 15 from the SMU 32-yard line. SMU must leave it all out on the field if they want to return to Charlotte.
SMU stays alive

The Mustangs went 75 yards on nine plays and capped of the drive with a nice touchdown catch by Matthew Hibner. SMU trails Cal 24-14 with 4:52 remaining in the third quarter. A huge defensive series coming for SMU.
Cal closing in on upset over SMU
11/29/2025 09:08:57 PMThe Mustangs did not start the half strong. The offense began with a three-and-out, while the defense gave up chunk plays all over the field. Cal cashed in a 3rd and goal from the 15-yard line for a touchdown. JKS found tight end Cole Boscia for the touchdown. Cal leads 24-7 and the path for SMU has never looked more bleak.

Outside of one explosive run, the SMU offense has been stagnant, while Cal is finding uncanny success running the football. SMU must turn the tides in the second half if the Mustangs want to return to Charlotte. SMU trails 17-7 and will receive the opening kick to start the second half.
Golden Bears capitalize off of turnover
11/29/2025 07:59:11 PMCal picked off Kevin Jennings after tight end Matt Hibner popped the ball up in the air, gifting the Golden Bears great field position. JKS and company took advantage, as the freshman QB hit senior wide receiver Jacob de Jesus on a screen for the seven-yard touchdown. Cal now leads 17-7 with 10:29 remaining in the first half.
Cal retakes the lead
11/29/2025 07:50:53 PMQuarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele connects with wide receiver Jaiven Plummer on a beautiful throw for the 35-yard touchdown. Cal reestablishes its three-point lead 10-7 with 13:12 left in the second quarter.
End of first quarter: SMU 7, Cal 3
11/29/2025 07:48:49 PMSMU defense started out sluggish, but picked up their act to hold Cal to a 40-yard field goal. SMU answered quickly thanks to 54-yard burst from running back Chris Johnson Jr. SMU leads 7-3 at the end of the first quarter.
