Former Texas wide receiver Kelvontay Dixon, a former four-star prospect, committed to SMU after an unofficial visit, he announced. Dixon entered the NCAA Transfer Portal last month right before the May 1 deadline to be immediately eligible.

The Mustangs beat out Auburn, Texas Tech and others for the 6-0, 182-pound wideout with three years of eligibility remaining.

Kelvontay Dixon, a 2020 signee out of Carthage High in East Texas, played in 15 games over two seasons at Texas. He made three receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown. Dixon committed and signed to play for the Longhorns over offers from Arkansas and Houston.

Heading into the spring, Dixon was expected to be right in the rotation for the Longhorns at wide receiver. Once Joshua Moore departed, Dixon was seen with the second team behind standouts Jordan Whittington and Xavier Worthy. Inside Texas’ Joe Cook pegged him as the third wideout.

“Kelvontay Dixon seems like the most likely to see action when Texas needs three wide receivers,” Cook wrote. “The Carthage native had three targets and one reception against Iowa State. A group of Dixon, Worthy, and Washington offers a little bit of everything skill-wise, but is very unproven.”

Kelvontay Dixon adds to a massive transfer week for SMU

The Mustangs are on a roll with the NCAA Transfer Portal. Just on Friday, Texas defensive lineman David Abiara and safety Chris Adimora committed along with Oklahoma State linebacker Kamryn Farrar.

Earlier in the week, it was Mississippi State transfer wideout Teddy Knox, a former four-star prospect, and Louisiana-Monroe’s Nick Roberts who committed to play for SMU.

Last month, former four-star prospect and Alabama running back Camar Wheaton really kicked things off for the spring.
