SMU quarterback Preston Stone and linebacker Alex Kilgore met with the media on Saturday after the Mustangs beat Louisiana Tech. Hear their takeaways from the 38-14 win inside Gerald J. Ford Stadium in the season-opener.

Next up for SMU is heading on the road to Oklahoma, where the team will face a Sooners team that beat up Arkansas State, 73-0.

SMU now starts preparation for Oklahoma

The Mustangs started Stone for the first time at home and he directed an offense that rolled up 457 yards and scored 31 points. It wasn’t perfect by any means, but it’s a start.

“I’ll be honest, I was really boring and stubborn today. Game 1, we did it last year against North Texas too, you can be too crazy, too complicated,” Lashlee said after the game. “You get all this time and it’s like ‘Man, Game 1, new starting quarterback but not that he’s not experienced, but just all the new guys, we’ve got new guys all over the place on offense.’ If you try to do too much, that’s where sometimes you don’t execute very well. We didn’t bust a lot, I know I mentioned the one on the first drive, that’s the only one in my head I can really think about, so we knew what to do.

“We played fast. Maybe we’ve got to execute better or maybe I’ve got to get better play calls. It may be a combination of both.
