South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers makes Maxwell Award watch list
On Monday, South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers earned a spot on the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award. Sellers is one of 80 players nominated to the preseason watch list.
The Maxwell Award is given annually to college football’s player of the year. The University of South Carolina has never had a Maxwell Award winner.
Sellers has also made several preseason All-American lists ahead of what will be his redshirt sophomore season.

University of South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers is one of 80 college football players named to the 89th Maxwell Award preseason watch list, the Maxwell Football Club announced today.
The Maxwell Award has been presented to the College Player of the Year since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert “Tiny” Maxwell who was a former standout at Swarthmore College and a renowned sportswriter and football official.

Sellers, a 6-3, 240-pound redshirt sophomore from Florence, S.C., was the 2024 National Freshman Offensive Player of the Year as selected by the Football Writers of America. He was also a 2024 Freshman All-American, an SEC All-Freshman selection and a third-team All-SEC pick by the league’s 16 coaches. He threw for 2,534 yards and 18 touchdowns while completing 65.6 percent of his passes and added 674 yards and seven touchdowns rushing in his first season as a starting signal-caller.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced November 11, 2025, while the three finalists for the Maxwell Award will be unveiled November 25, 2025. The winner of the 89th Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 11, 2025. The formal presentations of the Maxwell Award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards on Friday March 13, 2026 in Atlanta, Georgia.
